Our First Santa Charity Ride!

City Coast Motorcycles presents The Litas Wollongong Santa Ride
Xmas Ride by Paul Jones

City Coast Motorcycles wrapped up its busy year of events presenting The Litas Wollongong Santa Ride. The occasion, held on Saturday December 9th, was a mixed social event supporting Wollongong’s famous Santa Charity Pub Crawl. Participants were encouraged to dress festive and to tinsel up their bikes. A total of 20 merry riders were in attendance.

Organiser Jane from City Coast Motorcycles said she was excited about building the ride in 2018:

“We’ve been proud to help establish the Litas Wollongong and help grow their membership. The Santa Ride was the perfect opportunity to do something fun in the public eye for a good cause. I am certain we’ll be able to double our numbers next year,” Jane said.

The Litas are a world-wide, all female motorcycle collective of 3500+ women, from over 150 cities and 19 countries. You can read more about them here.

Our thanks to the PCYC Wollongong, Paul Jones and the North Gong Hotel.

City Coast Motorcycles Ladies Torque

Ladies Torque at City Coast Motorcyccles

City Coast Motorcycles recently presented its first ever Ladies Torque Night. Interested customers were treated to bike maintenance advice from Beau, a preview of Merlin Riderwear, a rider safety talk, an introduction to our ladies riding group – the Litas Wollongong, as well as fantastic lucky door prizes from Motul Australia. Importantly, this was an opportunity for new riders to ask questions in a non-confronting environment, as well as get to know other riders in their home town.

Thanks to everyone one who attended; we appreciate all the great feedback and look forward to the next one!

DOING FMX FOR THE KIDS!

The City Coast Motorcycles Yatcon Civil FMX Jam was back for its third year at i98fm Illawarra Convoy on November 19. Thousands massed to watch many of Australia’s biggest names in FMX throw down at the region’s biggest charity gig.

Just a day before the world class fmx stage was under rainwater, but Peter Yates and the Yatcon Civil crew pulled out all the stops to make sure the event went ahead for the kids.

Our resident FMX fanatic Justin “Bushy” Bush mastered the mic while the riders owned the arena. The talent list was on point with Robbie Maddison, Chucky Norris, Luke McNeill, Tom Robinson, Cory Bozzola, Alex Bucholtz, James Martin, Jake Bowen, Dylon Mcdonald, Scott Perry, Ben Richards, Tom Richards, Codie Rooney, Will Schwarz and Oliver Hutchinson.

Fans lined up to receive a personally signed copy of Maddo’s children’s book. There were Skullcandy giveaways, mini-bike races, a best whip comp and monster FMX moves. The energy in the crowd was electric, photographers took position and the riders delivered.

Robbie Madison returned for his second year to the City Coast Motorcycles Yatcon Civil FMX Jam.

Spreading that Convoy Spirit

For three years City Coast Motorcycles has supported the region’s favourite community charity – i98fm Illawarra Convoy – through our world class FMX Show with Yatcon Civil.

In 2017 we took a step up, additionally fundraising as a lead bike team with David Drain of Kembla Heights Bowlo. Fun events held throughout the year, such as the Convoy Fall Ball, Convoy Demo & Classic Show ‘N Shine and Convoy Bowls Off as well as corporate donations took our total to $17,242.

On Sunday November 19, we rode for baby Emerson, who sadly passed away at the tender age of six months and 27 days from Type A SMA, a terminal spinal condition.

The Kembla & City Coast Motorcyles Lead Bike TeamIn 2017, we joined forces with David Drain from Kembla Heights Bowling and Recreation Club to form the Mt Kembla & City Coast Motorcycles Lead Bike Team. Together, we have organised fundraisers like the Convoy Fall Ball, Convoy Demo Day & Classic Show N Shine and Convoy Bowls Off. Every dollar from these events goes to the Illawarra Community Foundation which is the wheels behind our beloved Convoy. We have been humbled watching the work of the Foundation, such I98fm Illawarra Convoyas assisting with the redevelopment of the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Public Hospital.

We are calling on corporate sponsors to contribute to our lead bike bid. Any donation is greatly appreciated. The highest corporate sponsor will win a memorable Convoy ride in the pictured Ural Retro side car, captained by Greg Oshea. The second and third top corporate sponsors will also receive a spot in the Mt Kembla City Coast Motorcycles Lead Bike Team on the day.

Please email your sponsorship offer to jane@citycoastmotorcycles.com.auAll donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. Should you require a tax invoice one will be distributed by The Illawarra Community Foundation.

Thank you, Illawarra for your support ♥

A Very Distinguished Result

DGR Wollongong
Riders regroup at Wollongong’s first Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, hosted by City Coast Motorcycles.

On Sunday September 24, scores of dapper ladies and gents packed their manners aboard classic and vintage motorcycles and rode for the Movember Foundation.

What a sight to behold and what an achievement! 172 registrations, magnificent machines and new friendships formed.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in 2012 by Mark Hawwa in Sydney. The charity event, raises much needed funds for prostate cancer research and male suicide prevention.

For the first time, Wollongong rode in unison with 600 cities across the globe. Participants took in a scenic route encompassing Flagstaff Hill before regrouping at beautiful Bulli Beach.

We are excited to announce Wollongong’s first Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride has raised $20,568 for men’s health. Our esteemed colleagues at Young Henrys  kindly sponsored our local top fundraisers.

Congratulations to our winners:

HIGHEST FUNDRAISER: Jon Spark
2ND PLACE: Michael Jobson
3RD PLACE: Rob Veljanoski

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Lord Mayor Cr Gordon Bradbery and Wollongong City Council, Senior Constable Andrew Cotton and Wollongong LAC, Triumph Motorcycles Australia, 96.5 Wave FM, The Illawarra Mercury, North Wollongong Hotel, Young Henrys, John Keogh, Michael Jobson and all of our volunteers who helped Jane and the City Coast Motorcycles crew make the day possible.

And thanks to each and every rider for joining us in this remarkable event; we can’t wait to dress dapper and do it all again in 2018!

Success at the Mt Kembla 2-Stroke Cup

MX Team City Coast Motorcycles were loving that sweet two-banger sound at the Mt Kembla 2-Stroke Cup on the weekend.  They also cleaned up with some fantastic results!

New recruit Mason Hills won the 85cc class with Brock Ninness in second; Brock later went on to win the 125cc Junior class. Corey James won both the 500cc class and Pre-95 classes.

Jake Nugent nicely won the 35+ division. Calib Best fought hard in the largest category – the City Coast Motorcycles 250cc event – taking home a well-earned second place. Lachy Caunt came third in the Clubman class. Great racing was also put in by Liam Williams and Jake Watts. City Coast Motorcycles resident two-banger fanatic, Justin “Bushy” Bush got stuck in to both the Senior 125s and his microphone duties.

Our FMX Team’s Tom Robinson and Dylon Mcdonald also threw down for the excited crowds.

And then our own Mark Merlo aka The Captain claimed third prize in the big one – The Mt Kembla Two Stroke Cup – ahead of team mate Calib Best in fourth.

Wollongong Images photographer Noel Downey said the event was nothing short of spectacular:

“The way the day unfolded was excellent; the program was great, there were national level riders and up-and-comers, plus the weather turned it on for us. Being a two-stroke event – and one of the only real good ones I have been to in Australia and America – it was just phenomenal,” Noel said.

The annual Mt Kembla 2-stroke Cup began in 2016, with Corey James crowned champion and Jaiden Corrigan taking out second place.

Thanks to Shannon and Al Ninness, Justin Bush and Wollongong Motorcycle Club for their hard work in building another top-notch event.
